Biggest tire size in the rear? 20"x9

Hey, I've been reading the threads here since before I bought my magnum sxt about 6 months ago(?). I love the mods people have been doing for their cars and I just sorta began working on mine.... I've shaved my side moldings and lettering, will be tinting soon, but now I'm looking at wheels and here's my question:

What's the largest tire size I could safely go with on wheels in the back. I'm looking at a set of 20" wheels and was thinking about doing them with bigger rubber in the back than in the front. I really don't plan on lowering my car (warranty) so that won't figure into this at all.

Anyways,any help would be appreciated since I'm pretty new to this and I'm not afraid to admit I'm ignorant when it comes to tires and measurements of them

I have 22 x 9.5's on my ride all the way around but I have spacers on the back to compensate for the offset because my rim is so deep.

You should do a search though because some people are talking about XX x 10's in the rear.

I think I worded my post wrong... I'll have the the set of wheels at 20"x9, but I want to have taller tires in the back. I guess I want to know what is the tallest tire size I can find for the back of the magnum, that'll fit on a 20" wheel.

I'm not sure if most of you think that would look goofy, but I think it might look pretty cool to have some big tires in the back, even if just a little bigger than the front.

Watch out as you will probably torpedo your MDS, which cuts out the throttle if it perceives wheel slippage. In part it does that by checking rotational speed versus other wheels. Taller wheels will have a different rotation value.

No idea if MDS is adaptive but I've never heard it said so. Wouldn't bet on it :-(

I think you mean "ESP". And yes, having different height tires from front to back more than just a tad will throw off your ESP and antilock brakes.

More common today would be a staggered offset with the rears being wider, but same height.

doh! I'm just grasping for a hope here now but.... Wouldn't the rear tires rotate slower than the front if they were taller? Will that still give the same effect?

Or..... Is it that the esp system monitors each of the 4 wheels independantly in order to activate the braking when needed right? Is this something that might be altered through programing?

I don't know enough about it to make an educated guess. All I know is every modded 300 or Magnum I've seen, in fact every newer car I'm aware of has the same height front and rear. If not, it's done at the factory and made to work that way.

I'm not interested in different height tires, only different width front to back.

They are independent.

You could always put different size wheels front to back and then put tires on to match overall height. You will get some of the looks of oversized rear tires while minimizing the problems of different rotational speed.
