I have my 96 3/4 ton Ram in the shop for brakes, wheel bearing kit and a axle joint. The owner of the garage showed me the Backing Plates from each wheel. they were almost completely disintegrated/. The Dodge Dealer said they are unavailable so he had to leave them out. He said he made allowances for the missing part. What I would like to know is, can I drive like this and not expect a problem. Also it is hard to imagine that this part is not available. How about some comments?

You will be fine. He's right, they don't really provide these parts anymore but you won't have much to worry about. Those backing plates are supposed to protect your rotor from the inside against rocks and particles, but I think they trap mud more than anything. I've been running a year without backing plates with no ill effects. Mine were also pretty much gone.
