I just bought a 2004 ST (which I am loving!), and it has a knob that shows "AWD 4WD Lock" options. I am used to having a 4hi and 4lo option so this is new to me. I have been reading about the durango AWD system and think I have an understanding of how to use the AWD/4WD Lock switch but I really want to confirm with the forum.
So, this is my understanding. Please correct any misconceptions or errors, and add information that I have missed. Thanks!:
Keep the switch in AWD for normal driving and most moderate off road conditions, and basic winter driving.
Place the switch into 4WD LOCK when I need to lock it into 4WD for severe conditions and extreme driving at low speeds. Do not drive on dry pavement with it in LOCK. Do not drive over 23mph in LOCK as it is essentially a 4-LO setting.
The vehicle can be switched from AWD to 4WD LOCK on the fly.
