I have a manual 5-speed on my 2001 Ram. It's coming up on 80K miles and I was wondering if the fluid should be changed at a certain point. If so, what should I replace the fluid with, and what are the procedures? Also, is it recommended that I use Slick 50's manual transmission additive? Thanks for all who respond.

This would be a good time to consult your owners' manual. Some manual transmissions take engine oil, some take ATF, and some require gear lube. Another thing to consider is if you would like to go to a synthetic lube which will prolong the life of your transmission AND require less maintenance.

In my opinion it isn't going to hurt your transmission if you service it now...and I also would not add any addititive, especially Slick 50. Slick 50 contains PTFE Teflon that tends to "clump" up under high heat conditions and that's a bad thing. If you want something that is going to prolong the life of the transmission, then a synthetic lube (such as Amsoil) is the way to go.
