i have had this happen b4, it was in a 1980 olds toronado where my alternator quit and so did my brake lights, so what im wondering are these two directly related to each other or am I in for some kinda wire problem hunt.

They share a fusible link. The fusible link is a #16 and it's dark blue. Each end of the fusible link is attached to a 12 gauge black wire. Most fusible links are located up around the brake booster.
