resistor.....the fan is off or on, a resistor controls the speed. I will try to find a picture, but you can also search. Someone just posted a similar problem less than a week ago.

Manual says no repair, though Im sure you could find the bad resistor or trace and repair it. It is a regular old ceramic resistor.

I got as much of the page as large as I could.

You should have been able to test it with a multimeter, go to radio shack, and solder the new one in.

Resistors aren't always good. They fail just like anything else. Yours was probably faulty and cracked. Other people, though not many, have had the same problem. That's how I knew where to tell you to look. Mine went out at 16k, and was warrantied. 60k now and no probs.

Can you take pictures of the old resistor, if you still have it? I assumed it was a run of the mill cermic resistor.

I am glad you got it fixed. I guess $80 ain't bad for not having to mess with it yourself.
