The fan in the engine compartment for the AC condenser does not come on. Sitting still at a light there is no A/C, fine when moving down the highway.

I expect there is a fuse or relay for that fan, or it is dead? They are not in the fuse block, so must be somewhere else?

Thanks!!!

This is usually the AC condenser fan motor that's gone bad.
Check the AC fan fuses in the fuse box just to make sure.
If all is good, switch the AC to on with the engine running. The AC condenser fan should start to run imediately.
If the fan doesn't spin up, tap the fan motor end casing with the butt end of a large screwdriver/hammer.
If it spins up then, the motor is stuffed.
It's usually worn brushes inside the fan motor.
You can change out this motor with a new one from e-bay. They are cheap enough and you can do all this without evacuating the AC.
It involves cutting a slot into the plastic fan shroud and sliding the shroud off around the AC lines and then you will have enough room to get at and replace your fan moter.
I have recently posted up some pics of this md and another member here was having the exact same issues as you.
I rebuilt my fan moter well over 2 years ago and she still runs great.

And here you go for your spare

Save yourself a LOT of money and DIY.
Hope this helps?

One silly question.

Are you running it in recirculate mode?

Excellent, thank you!.. No fan at all in any mode. I picked up a new motor today at Checker / Kragen for $30. I'll put it in tonight.

Thanks again!

My Daughter and I just did the whole motor swap in 30 minutes. Works great. Total cost = $30.

Thanks again!

Man......that's thanks enough that you did this and it all works.
Glad to have helped out.
I bet that $30 beats whatever the stealership was gonna charge, you hands down?
Plus, you did it all yourself with help from your daughter, which is a nice kick isn't it.

Take care and enjoy good frosty cold driving again.

Al.

PS...sorry about all the bad spelling mistakes in my original reply to you.
Moter..........motor ha ha ha
I'd just finished a bad night shift and was soooo tired. lol.

I figure that was a $400 save from the dealer. Yes, anytime I have one of the kids to work with ( we have 4) I love it. BTW, the daughter is a Firefighter and does maint on the engines often, so she is go to go with tools and grease!

Thanks you again, my very best!
