My mother-in-law has a '99 ram with the 5.9L engine in it. The truck only has about 125k miles on it and it needs it's 3rd tranny rebuild ! The band keeps coming loose when it warms up, it slips when accelerating and shifts abnormally. The truck is used as a truck, but not beat on. I am just wondering what anybody with similar problems has done, if they should just go with another $2k rebuild, or if there is something else (like push it off a cliff ) they can do. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Swap a 5 speed in or take it to tactransman's shop. Those two options are sure fire!!!

I wouldn't rebuild it again. I'd get a re-manufactured unit with a warranty and perhaps add a shift kit. TransGo has a kit for about $40 (plus install) that allows fluid circulation in park and firms up the shifts. It's on my to-do list!

I'm speaking purely from just the little bit that i've seen, but it seems like the rams that get romped on and the fluid never changed seem to be the ones that have less transmission problems in general. Not that this is actually the case, but it seems like it from what i've seen.
