Hi All

I have a 97 Dodge Stratus 2.4 that the ABS light is on solid. Took it to my mechanic and he could not find anything causing it to do so thus making me reluctant to bring it to the dealership to pay a diagnostic fee and get the same info. When I start the car the light is off and after about 15 seconds it goes off, stays off for about 5 seconds and then comes back solid. The brakes are fine and the brake fluid level. Any Suggestions.

Also I have tried the following to get any codes. Turn the ignition on, off, on, off and then on again which I belive will show codes on the odometer. No codes show on the odometer but the check engine light blinks five times, stops then blinks five more times. Does anyone know what that means.

Thanks

The OBDII codes are for emmision related components only.

The most common cause of ABS failure is the wheel motion sensor. These usually fail after a flat tire. If any are damaged, they are usually very easy to see that they are bad (Beaten up).

The ABS computer has its own codes, its own computer and its own diagnostic port. If the visual inspection of the wheel sensors turns nothing up, then take the car to the dealer or a brake specialist.

Your problem isn't really "essential". You have brakes, you just don't have ABS brakes. When the light is lit, the ABS system is disabled.
