Good evening everyone,

I have a 97 Dodge Dakota with a 5.2 Magnum. Recently the transfer case exploded into pieces. I found one from a 2001 Durango I believe.

The Durango one reads:
231D
ASSY NO: 5210 5674A

The one on my Dakota reads:
231D
ASSY NO: 5210 5365A

Can anyone tell me if this durango transfer case will work in my truck?

I dont want to buy it if it will not work for me.

Any help is appreciated.

does the whole assembly number have to match exactly?

I have a:

231D
ASSY NO: 5210 5365A

I am looking at a:

231D
ASSY NO: 5210 5674A

I had to change the tranny in my 97 rwd. In 97 it was a one year only set up for the speedo drive. In 97 it used a sending unit on the tranny. Later years it used a signal from the anti-lock brakes.
I think the 4wd versions were set up the same way.
