what is interchangable and what will i have to get.. This is a 1999 Dakota club cab 4x4 automatic. i know i need the pcm. i have been told that the transmissions are different, are they

Any information will be helpful

i figure that the motor should just bolt right up to everthing

i think all ya'd need would be the computer for the bigger one

You will need to use the torque converter plate for the 5.9 as it has the offset balance weight for the 5.9 which is externally balanced. You can use the same PCM I believe or get it reflashed with the 5.9 spec's The only difference between these 2 engines is the balance and the cylinder volume you get more fuel with the 5.9's bigger injectors. There may be some timeing and fuel rate differences between the 2 PCM's but they will both work.

The 5.2 can build some impressive HP. But if you already have a 5.9 might as well swap it in.

you need the flywheel as noted above, a complete 5.9, and the PCM matched for your drivetrain (auto, 2wd or 4wd). You'll need an auto tranny if yours is a manual. Get a tune for the PCM while you're at it.
