I have a 2000 Dodge Dakota with a 5.9 and 46re trany. I just got the truck, engine wasn't running.. got engine running went to drive it noticed only forward response from transmission. Checked fluid levels found low and slightly discolored. Dropped pan found small amount of metal but no snap ring pieces as read in threads before. Changed filter and fluid retested and still same issue any pointers on which direction I should go next?

Ok. I have the same trans. Everyone jumps to the snap rings. Check your solenoids first. I had to replace the outside one and it fixed the reverse issue. Then, I could only change gears manually up to third and no OD. Changed the internal solenoid. Guess what? Changed the fluid and the filter and no issues. 120 bucks. Bought a new pan that has a drain plug.
