I have a 2004 Ram 2500. bought it used, has over 100K on it, had it for about 3 months now.

i am now hearing a "ticking" noise, apparently coming from the engine, i noticed it about a month ago, -pretty sure- it wasn't there beforehand.

what happens is, while driving there will be a repetitive tick-tick-tick noise. if i accelerate, the ticking noise increases in frequency. if i back off the pedal (coasting), then the ticking noise stops. i don't hear it when parked in the driveway idling.

looks like i'll have to take it in to the dealership, but thought i'd ask in advance for an opinion from the (seemingly often more qualified) folks here.

any ideas? (hoping nothing serious).

my truck did that when i had the smarty on increased timing. which was normal because of the programmer. take to the dealer and let them diagnose. i would also request they reflash your computer with the latest stock program.
