We just got a new trailer with electric brakes that needs a brake controller. My Dakota has the tow package wich should have made this easy but when we used the stock brake control harness and contected the wires by color blue to blue and so on, the 20 amp brake fuse would blow with in seconds. I took the truck to the dealer and $100 later they said I had a bad (new) control module becuase the wires are conected correctly.

We purchased a second controller and the same thing happens, fried fuse in rear brake lights with in seconds.
Any thoughts?

Ran into something similar with a stereo once - check for an open-ground loop. My dak didn't come with the towing pkg, so I did all of the wiring myself...

I can't say if your '01 is the same as my '03 but my controller has an indexed plug that just plugs in. I think I remember something about wire colors not matching. I checked the Tekonsha site they have the color code if you are splicing. Hope this helps.
