Has anyone ever had this happen? I got in car after dinner tonite and as I drove off trans is stuck in 2nd gear. All shift indicator lights have the box around them and speedo does not work. Unplugged battery to try to reset but it did not work. Any Ideas on cause and cost to fix.

Your speed sensor went out. The transmission is electrically controlled and uses the spedometer to help gauge when to shift. Since it doesn't have that info, it just stays in second.
Find a neighborhood mechanic and you should get out the door for maybe $100. Last time I did it cost about $80.
