1995 5.9L EGR Valve

I have a 1995 Dodge Ram 1500 with the 5.9L engine in it. Recently when it is a bit colder out, the check engine light will come on when I hit the excellerator. The local dealership says that it is the EGR valve that is bad. However, the check engine light does not come on all the time, only when the engine is cold. Is there any way to clean a EGR valve, or do I have to spend the $120 and fix it myself??

first off - WELCOME to the site

If the EGR valve control solenoid has somehow been disconnected or damaged in any way - the electronic signal will be lost and the EGR valve will be open all the time ....

You can notice rough idle and poor performance ...

Might want to make sure all connections are tight to start with ... Also look at the hoses and tubes for leaks, cracks, kinks etc ...

Hopefully its something easy like that ...

Hope this helps

also

Also check your code. Do a cycle with your ignition

On-Off-On-Off-On-Off-On wait for the check engine light to start flashing and count the flashes. There will be a pause between each number. They will be 2 digit numbers. When you see a 55 that is the end of the check. Send me the numbers or postem here and we can give you a better idea!

Good luck!

there is a diaphram that burns through also, valve may be good but the rubber diaphram is ruptured, when you buy a new valve from Mopar you get the valve and the control diaphram/soleniod together....
