New to the forums and in need of help. My 1991 Dodge Ram 250 5.9 liter gas pickup truck does not start. I was driving home and she stalled entering the drive.

I checked for spark by pulling the coil wire out of the distributor cap and cranking while holding it above a good ground. I got nothing. When I ground my test light and put it to the positive side of the coil and crank the engine I do have power to the coil. However when I check the negative side while cranking I do not get a pulse.

My question are 1. Am I performing these tests properly? 2. What causes the coil to fire on this year truck? I am in need of some help.
