Diff Fluid Change at Dealer?

Good morning, I am having my diffs, transfer, and trans changed tomorrow, and was wondering specifically what fluids are unique to the PW. I hear it does not need anything special for the lockers, though the rear is limited slip (until locked)?

I just want to make sure I am getting my money's worth, and they do everything correctly.

When they change your diff fluid they will pump it and refill. They won't take the cover off and clean your magnets. They probably don't know it has magnets. I'd stay back there and watch it. Just tell them there's stuff in your truck that you can't leave unattended. I stay with mine all the time.

My cousin is bringing his PW out to my house on Monday if you'd be interested in following him out. We're going to install his CB and put his front Carli Diff protector on.

They should be using 75W90 Synthetic.

The cover needs to come off, and the magnets need to be cleaned, both front and rear.

Where the wiring terminates there should be a black blob of particles just to the left of the plug. It looks similar to a set of distributor points - except they are much bigger.

Print the photo, take it to them, and insist it be done.

So no friction modifiers, even for the rear?

Anyone have a closeup of the actual magnets?

No modifiers. The PW has a helical gear limited slip. not a clutch driven limited slip.

A little of both really..lol

Plus it's hard to get stuck in dust I did manage to go out last weekend to a retreat center and do some hog hunting and I managed to play around in the mud volleyball pit, but it was only 6" of water and very little mud

You know, my lockers were slow the first two times, quicker the second time, but now lock instantly (both) from even a dead stop.

Should I even have them open the pumpkins to clean the magnets? I'm afraid it will do more harm than good from all off the horror stories?

Here you go.
1st pic is unlocked.
2nd pic is locked. Look at the distance between the sensor and magnet in each pic. And look at the ring on the carrier.

Yeah. The magnet doesn't move. The sensor does. The magnet is the one you adjust for distance. It's mounted on the bearing cap (left). The sensor is mounted on the locker ring (right). It moves back and forth with the locker engagement.

That's what I thought, but when I changed my rear diff fluid I recall my magnets being further apart...I betcha that's why my RR locker and SERV 4WD light comes on from time to time

To check your sensor distance. You have to have the locker engaged. Easy enough to do. Jack the rear up. Remove diff cover. Engage locker by-pass. engage rear locker. If it doesn't engage. Just turn one rear wheel easy until it engages. Check your distance. Should be 0.210". If not, adjust it. I would use a stainless feeler gauge so it doesn't stick to the magnet.
