84 dodge W150 won't idle runs great down road and dies when let off gas. Rebuilt 2 barrel holley 2 new fuel pumps cleaned tank replaced fuel lines any help greatly appreciated. Grandfather bought new in 84 never had any problems till now.
Make sure all the vacuum lines are hooked up. Any vacuum leak will cause it to not idle. To check, adjust your idle up high so it will run. Then spray carb cleaner or starting fluid around the base of the carb and around the edge of the intake. If the engine speeds up you have a vacuum leak. Also if you rebuilt the carb, did you get the float set correctly? It may be flooding the carb out. When you took the carb apart, some have a little ball and spring that will fall out with out you noticing.( I know this from past experience). Hope this helps you.
