dang just 221? i thought stock on a 318 was like 220-230?

I dunno. It makes more torque than it does HP, which is odd for a 318 but whatever.
You also have to remember there is 130k miles on that engine, I know I'm probably not getting near the compression I was when it was newer.
And my PCM tune is too rich.

Just to put it in perspective: my Ram will keep up with the wife's Hemi until about 50 mph, then her D will leave me in the dust
I don't think it's too slow for a 5400#, 13 year old truck.

Ya these arent light trucks, and also drivetrain takes a good chunk of that power. especially an automatic. For example a stock 360 4x4 only puts down about 180 to the wheels. Course that will vary with many things like condition of engine, and such.

A bone stock 318 puts down 160-165 rwhp and 230-240 rwtq. I have the dyno sheets to prove it and I do believe they are on here somewhere from back in the day.

its crazy how much hp & tq these trucks lose from the engine to the rear wheels. i'm going to a car show in Tn on the 26th of this month & they are suppose to have a dyno there...i'll make a run on it & see if the mods i've made are even worth it.

with the sct 93 custom tune, headers & exhaust, bored tb, round filter & the other little stuff i think i'd be ok with 30 something more hp/tq...i think that would be reasonable...i wish i had roller rockers & gears already.

It threads like these that make me so glad I got rid of spark ignition. Not going to get int the short or long tube header debate, but make sure you are sending hot sparks to the cylinders. My 4.0 jeep benefited quite a bit with an ignition upgrade.

i wonder how long the 390 would last if i bumped up the compression to 20-1 and fed it diesel and if your going to go big some alcohol/propane injection you would probably see the fireball in texas
