Personally I feel having a 5-speed and a Hemi, that putting an auto behind the Hemi was a big mistake it robs alot of power from the motor. My truck starts to pull harder at like 2200 or 2500 rpm, and I'm running around in a 2500 4x4. But thats just my opinion, and observations.

I honestly believe that you are right. The ole 545 takes a lot of power away from the rear wheels. I know that there is not a big market, but Dodge should at least offer a manual transmission behind our motors. I have really considered going to a 4.7L 6 speed just for the fun factor. I like to row my own gears, but I wish I could do it with my truck.

What's there to brag about?? You bought an engine that has a name attached to it for marketing..There are many hemisperical combustion chamber engines these days...Dodge just owns the copyright.

If THAT is your whole motivation, I'm sorry too.... There is nothing "special" about owning a Hemi (at least not THAT hemi).

Could be....I dunno.......
I did read a right up on the 05' V6 model where it said they were 4-speed auto's.
The dakotas are only 4-speeds auto with the V6.

"SSR"......I like that....

SRT2Sport- Yeah I think 3.92's would do the "trick".
Unless you do zero highway and you need a granny-like 1st gear for towing or something.

Truth be told it's not even a "true" hemispherical combustion chamber either.

You mean at first right? Then after it (the truck) moves a bit it opens all the way doesn't it?
Makes me glad I have a throttle cable on my lil' 4.7.....

my bros dak has the 4.7. automatic

and there is such a difference in how the pedal responds off the line. i know my truck would destroy his truck, but with that cable throttle, it just jumps on you

Yeah my Hemi wasn't too impressive at first either. At work I drive a f-250 with the 5.4 and it pulls hard right off the line. My Hemi needs to be wound up to wring the power out of it. Now I have the BD and it's a different story though.

I agree with the rest of you-the etc sucks on these hemis. However it does have way more go than my ol 5.9 did. But with the 5.9 you just felt it more due to the cable. I cant wait to get a tuner, but not sure which one yet (Schips or BD?)

I don't know about the rest of the trucks out there but mine snaps off the line and puts to shame my friends fords and chevys. maybe because it was the first year and I got lucky. I don't know, I beat my truck and the dealer says it is in great shape. I tow heavy and haul heavy loads of coal and dirt and it just has power that won't stop for a small block.I got the total 7/70 warranty on it no deductable, and execpt for the gas cap on smog inspection no problems. the dealer likes all my modes and lets me know what I can do and can't

Throttle response is quicker because of a more agressive throttle lever ratio, makes the truck feel more responsive, but really it isn't.
I'm not 100% sure if that is the case (which is to say I just don't know) but it is common practice to "tune" or set-up smaller displacement vehicles to give you the seat of the pants feel that it is a stronger motor than it really is. GM perfected the art in the 80's... My wife had a 86 Grand Am 3.0 V6 back in the day that when you rode in it felt bad-ass. Power curve, gearing, exhaust note, etc made it feel like it launched you, and it did for about 50 feet... . In the stop-light grand-prix it would do pretty well, but at the end of the day it really wasn't that fast.

As for racing a 4.7 vs a Hemi, put a 7000lb trailer on the back of each and 500lbs of gear in the bed and then try it.

I took it as a joke. At least I hope it was...

My buddy had a 80 something K-Car that had a Hemi badge on it, and I think it was a 2.2?

When we bought my wife's Magnum we didn't get the Hemi (got the bigger V6 which does just fine) and I got soooo tired of having to say "no" to the question "does that thing have a Hemi in it?" that I ran out and bought a Hemi Ram just to say yes! Well, that and the bigger camper that we bought....

Just wanted to chime in here. Before I bought my Ram I had an '05 F-150 Supercab with 5.4 and before that I had a '04 Silverado EC with 5.3. The Ford felt OK up until about 25-30 mph then fell on its face. The chevy always felt the quickest to me especially at part throttle. However, when I would line up at the light with a Hemi it was just as quick off the line and usually quicker up top. My wife has an '07 Tahoe which I drive on the weekends and like I said the 5.3 just feels like its quicker with less peddle but when we come to a light at the same time and take off she can never hang and this woman likes to drive fast and hates getting beat. Lastly, while my truck was in the shop a little while back for warranty work they gave me a 4.7 Ram. While it did seem to have a little better throttle response and firmer shifts it still did not feel as strong as the Hemi. I think all trucks have there advantages and disadvantages.
