Not trying to be a dick or anything, but what will a picture of someone else's truck do to help you try to diagnose a problem with your truck. You will still have no idea where the problem is in your truck until you get a picture of the area where the fire was. Like I said, I am not trying to be a jerk, just wondering.

i have my handles shaved and a remote start alarm that controls them. if i can figure out which plug melted or caught on fire as my wife said, i can narrow it down to the affected system.

I do this sort of thing on aircraft (electrical work) and have a niche in troubleshooting problems in circuits....I am just trying to figure out where to start based on the description I got from the wife.

I had a friend go over and check it out for me. From what he is telling me, it sounds like the remote start system or backup battery for the alarm. He took some pics and hopefully I will get them today.

It ended up being an inline fuse holder that melted that was for the remote start function of my alarm. There was a 30 amp fuse in there, so here is my theory: The alarm installer put the wrong sized fuse into the holder and the current value was exceeded for the holder/wire and instead of the fuse popping like it should, the holder/wire melted until the plastic on the fuse let go and disconnected the circuit.

Below is the pic, the green candy wrapper looking thing is the plastic portion of the old fuse:

Sounds like it was the wrong fuse.
