smell from vents

Not your normal mildew smell. This is almost like fresh silicon. The pass side floor is dry. No sign of coolant loss.

Any ideas?

Is is more prominent with the a/c on, recurculate on? Wonder if its refrigerant or a mold and mildew?

Have you had any dash work or a/c work done recently ? The last time I had my blend door fixed for the third time the tech jacked my dash around after the a/c was hooked back up and caused a leak. I had the same smell as you are talking about.Ofcourse the dealer denied it and that is how I traded it off .Forth blend door broke and all smelly.

Smell is there even without the AC. Is it strongest when you first get in and turn the fan blower on. I guess I'll try some Lysol and see what happens.

Is your outside drain tube clogged ? It exits the firewall right behind the right head. Any wet carpet ? This clogged drain tube is a common issue on the Dakotas

Carpet is dry, drain tube leaks as it should

Sprayed some Lysol today on the exterior vents by the wipers and ti is much better. I guess it was a bacteria or mold after all. Im glad because I really didnt want to tear my dash apart.
