Your right it's cheap so why not replace it. I replaced mine when my brake lights stopped working. You can test it with an Ohmmeter. The switch serves more than one function.
Terminals 1&2 are for the rwal/abs
Terminals 3&4 are for the speed control circuit
Terminals 5&6 are for the brake light circuit

abs brake driving me mad!replaced rearend sensor

It sounds like you solved the dam light issue!What is it????????????? I have gone mad bleeding rear brakes till I bought an ocean of brake fluid!no rear brake leaks,checked wireing ect.Dodge even told me #5 fuse was abs but it has one contact on one side so it does nithing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!PLEASE END THIS MADNESS!!!!!!!!!! [email protected] its a 1997 dodge ram2500 van with rear abs only!

This happened to my truck too and it was the rear speed/abs sensor on the top of the pumpkin. When you put your new sensor in did you change your fluid in your diff? Sometimes the sensor will malfunction if you have a lot of metal shavings or other things in the oil back there. I can't believe you paid that much for it at the dealership for the sensor, I picked mine up for around $45-$55 for it at my local dealership.
