Ok, since you said so, I'll post my pics here as well.

I'm tickled pink to have this mod. I am on my second ram (neither were/are laramies). Both dealers I went to said that I would have to replace the whole steering column and purchase the premium stereo. BS'ers. They can kiss my @ss!! I kept telling them that there's no way that a truck with the overhead computer and keyless remote could have a different clickspring and wiring harness. It just makes more sense for dodge to put the same harness and connectors in all trucks and then just not add the options to it. Just as an example, my truck doesn't have the switch to turn the passenger side airbag on or off. I took the center dash bevel off (farting around with a power antenna) and lo and behold, there was the wiring connector plugged into the plastic right where the switch would be. If I really wanted to, I'm sure I could add a switch there and simply plug it in.

Hope others are willing to try this mod. As simple as it is, I don't know why Dodge Dealers don't offer this as an option to all trucks. They could charge like $150 extra and it wouldn't take them long to do it (especially if they keep doing them and get practice). I know I would have paid and extra $150 for them to add the radio controls to mine when I bought it.

Anyway, enough of MY BS'ing.

To dremel out the wholes, I used a spiral cut-out bit. The kind that can easily rip through wood and dry wall like there's nothing there. Then I switched to the cylinder shaped sander to clean up the edges and get the round ends "more round."

Did the two switches come with the wires to run from the switchs themselves to the clockspring? Mine is already wired fromt the radio to the clockspring. Need to know if I go this route do I need to get that wire harness....

You will need the harness as well and the two switches .... you will seperate the harness to just use the pieces for the switches only and discard the rest if you already have the wire ran from the clock spring to the back of the Cluster. If you want pm me your phone number and can give you better detail

The used steering wheel fell through so I am going to be doing it your way. Now to get me a cutting tool and get a cutting once my switches are in. Got my fingers crossed.... If I really screw it up I can always spend the $260 on an new one... !!!!!! LOL

So how easy is it to do with a dremmel? Wonder if one of those drill saws would work?

I've already gotten the parts but haven't installed them yet. My question is: If I have the basic radio with single disc CD, will these controls work on this deck?

Cheers,

It will. Unless you don't wire it up correctly. Mine is a stock with CD and my mod worked great! I had the same question before doing mine, but I did it and it worked.
