Sounds like you have a good plan. BTW, unlike Chevrolet,(G.M.) or FoMoCo, Chrysler NEVER has used anything BUT forged rods in all of their factory motors. ALL! Even the lowly tower of power the /6 had forged rods. A stock 318 con rod is as strong as the gm 454 rod believe it or not.

really...i did not know that! That is actually awesome. That brings up another question...if i was to rebuild my 318 can i up the compression a bit or will that mess up the comp? Should i rebuild it with cast pistons or upgrade to hypereutectic?

1992 Dodge W150 5.2 magnum, 4" rough country lift, 33x12.50x15 mtz's, ultra alloys, 4.56 gears, borgeson steering shaft, Hooker headers, high-flow cat, custom cat-back, herculiner bed liner...

Compression helps everything even emissions, it wont disturb the comp. but dont go crazy with it. 9.5 is about max with iron heads, remember the magnum doesnt use a detonation sensor. The Keith Black Silvolights or Speed Pro Hyper Pistons are excellent! They are tight fitting but are stronger than a reg. cast piston and I think KB makes a special line of Magnum pistons designed just for your combustion chamber which will aid power production and keep detonation at bay due to the close quench afforded the magnum's excellent chamber design.
