Bed Bounce

Ive noticed a real nasty bounce when i go down bumpy roads or cross certain intersections. Its always been like that since i bought it, but now its getting to me. Does anyone else have this? Is there a specific cause tires, shocks, empty bed??

Shocks. I have this same exact issue. Usually when I lightly apply the brakes over any bumpy surface. The whole back of the truck feels like I've got rabbits for springs!!

It's the nature of a leaf spring/shock with an empty bed. Mine's an '06 and likes to jump all over on bump roads. I found if I have a light load (200-300 lbs) it stabilizes the ride.

If you really want to 'fix' it the only suggestion I have is to get a '10 or '11 with the coil springs. I test drove a '10 not too long ago and the bed doesn't jump around at all.

Couple of sand bags behind the rear wheel wells should smooth it out. Reducing the rear tire pressure should have an effect. Unless I'm towing or hauling, I keep the rears at 32 psi.

Get better shocks as the stock shocks are very weak. I'm running KYB Monomax shocks in the rear. They give a firm ride but my rear stays planted even if my box is empty. You don't have to upgrade to a 2010 pickup, just upgrade the shocks.

there are several posts here on DT about the shocks. I've got an '05 QC 4x4 with the same 'bounce' problem. Most guys say switch to Bilstiens and the problem goes away. I've been meaning to do that myself but never seem to get around to it...

Getting shocks will help in this. But the empty bed and rear leafs will be hard to easy up. Ever drive with like 100 lbs in the bed.. truck rides so much better.

I have bed supports that really really really helped with that sloppy feeling when you go over like train tracks. Now the bed feels really tight and doesn't shake like crazy. They are custom made.

I'd look to shocks first, but a rear sway bar will kill that sloppy over bumps feeling too. It will stiffen up the ride a bit though, so there's a trade off.

If you still have the overload springs, try a set of spring clamps. Stiffens the ride, lowers the back of your truck a half inch or so, and it helped reduce my wheel hop.
