mine have been slowly rusting since late 07. its the only thing i cant stand about dodge trucks....THEY ALL RUST! ive started to fix small sections recently. im just spray painting small sections after i fix them with the duplicolor for my paint code. i think im going to put on some power wagon flares and hope to god it covers what ive painted.

I didn't have much luck with the POR15 when my 01 Ram started rusting like this. The problem is that things are rusting from the inside-out. I followed the recommendations and tried EVERYTHING and it kept on coming right back until eventually the sheet metal rusted right through. Body shops didn't even want to touch it.

You can try the POR15 but I wouldn't get your hopes up that it will stop the spread of rust. In my opinion, it wasn't worth the time and money. Good product but not for this kind of application. Oh, and once you open the can, make sure that you put plastic wrap over the opening before you seal the lid back up. This MIGHT make it easier for the next time you try to pry the lid open. Even so, I think I ended up throwing at least 1 or 2 cans away because it was impossible to open. Your best bet might be to stick to just spray cans and eventually something like Bondo. In the end, it's still pretty much a losing battle.

It sucks 'cause I really loved that truck but got tired of the rust maintenance. I fixed it up one last time (which looked GREAT) and then traded up for my 08. I'm dreading the fact that I'll likely be right back to that same **** with this truck in about 5-6 more years.

Try Eastwood's products. According to some old car restorers, their Rust Encapsulator works better then POR 15, plus it comes in a spray can. They have a whole section on rust prevention/treatment.

A couple things- isn't the warranty on paint 10 years/100k miles?

Secondly- Every winter you need to use FluidFilm to undercoat your truck. Do a search, its the best stuff EVER

Not sure about the USA but in Canada its 5 years or 160,000 kilometres.
I live in Vancouver, BC. Rust is for the most part is not an issue here.

FluidFilm yes its great stuff...never thought to use it as undercoating. Don't burn this stuff as it totally stinks. The new box will get undercoated and I will put in the wheel well liners and giver it a yearly shot of FluildFilm.

Yeah I use it every time I go plowing in the winter.

Before heading out I spray the entire underside of the truck- go plow for 10-12 hours, wash the truck off with a pressure washer, then undercoat again.

My 2004 2500 has a rust bubble that popped. I'm over the 100,000 miles so maybe its fender flares time.
