weird random issues

Having a few odd issues with the truck.

Water pump was bad, so i changed it and the thermostat. Was having issues with the upper rad hose collapsing, ended up bleeding the air a lot and then finally having to change out the rad cap which seems to have fixed the issue.
The temp is fluctuating a lot though when moving slow or stopped and idling. It will sit at the halfway mark, but can go up almost to the 3/4 mark to the H, then swiftly drop back down. Im not sure why. is this normal?

Truck died driving down the road, was essentially coasting down a hill, then didnt want to stop (had to crank for 2-3 seconds to start it). Im thinking possible IAC sensor? Already reset PCM and did the throttle reset (APPS).

Wouldn't start this morning at all, just turned over about 1 time then stopped. Finally got it to crank, and then it just cranked without starting. Released key after about 4-5 seconds of cranking, tried again and it popped right off this but ran slightly rough for about 10 seconds and I could smell fuel in the exhaust.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. It runs down the road fine, runs great, sounds fine etc.

Is there any codes to help diagnose this? It may be the pcm needs to be reflashed by a stealership. My 03 has been flashed three or four times, I think it time to go back again. It just really bad coding from Chrysler.

You have to go to the ram forum website, then add the part of the link that isn't blocked.

No problem, hope this fixes your hemi. I have never had a mechanical issue with mine, surprising. It just the computers that glitch out like my tranny controller used to shift into neutral while going 70mph on I 70 to Indy, and won't shift back into gear.

Bad sensors are known in these dodges so that could be that. It also maybe a bad crankshaft which I think could cause the multiple misfire code. I would check your sensors first though. While doing that look at pictures of a new crankshaft compare with yours same with cam.

if your temp gauge is acting funny, double check the sending unit on engine. either the connector loose or the plastic housing fractured.

Will check that. Also did a pressure test (held 16# for over 10 minutes) several times. No water in the oil either (had thought head gasket).

Going to see if there is flow issues with the radiator. Upper hose is hot after a drive, lower hose is just lightly warm.

so after some more looking into it... its been eating water(thought it was a leak initially). think i saw water vapor/steam(it was faint) coming out the tailpipe today. also know it was pushing water out the overflow tank, it was down a half radiator in amount on my drive to work with some idling as well in my driveway while I checked temps with a infrared thermometer(temps seemed okay overall). so i'd say its a headgasket or a cracked head.

how do you tell if the heads have the bad valvesprings or not? about how much are they, and what part number do I need to order since I will have the heads off to do a headgasket anyways. also, should I have the heads checked at a shop, and any idea what that should cost approximately?

changed my plugs today. first of all, what a pain lol (the drives side back set). had 2 boots rip off inside the tube. Quite a few were barely more than hand tight, one plug WAS hand tight. Most looked fine. 6 on the drivers side did not. They had a orange/rust tint on the porcelain area by the electrode. Posting pictures... please let me know what you think it is.

Also... the crankcase vent tube has a NASTY amount of oil/gunk buildup (the air filter had a lot of gunk in it from what Im assuming is the crankcase vent as well, which went into the intake/tb etc). . Also changed the pcv, which was nasty and old. The TB was very dirty, VERY VERY dirty on the inside (i had cleaned the outside before quickly). Any idea what that is or is from? Should I change the crankcase breather to a filter instead so Im not sucking up all that gunk/crap or whatever it is?

I did NOT clean inside the manifold, didnt want to go that indepth or get stuff inside the engine.
