V-10 is still a bit front end heavy...maybe not as heavy as a cummins but heavier than a V-8 gasser.
A club cab is heavier than a long bed standard cab as well.
My vote, if you could find one...would be a 2000/later 2500 std cab long bed with a 5.9 gasser and 4:10 gears. A 2002 wouldn't have the CAD system front axle and the front D-60 has the larger front axles. Thus you could start with 33 inch tires or short 35 inch tires and a 5 inch lift.

2000 Dodge Ram 1500 QCSB 4x4 with all kinds of subtle and not so subtle modifications. I believe the mods you didn't try to find because my truck doesn't have a huge lift or massive tires are my BEST ones!

Because weight is everything right? There's no substitute for something that is narrower.

I'd buy a 94-01 Ram 1500, Reg Cab, Short Bed, preferably a 5 speed that is as basic as possible. Put a 4" lift, some 35" tires and run it as is for a while. I've always loved Stacey David's "Little Red Wagon" he built.

If you want it to be "bullet proof" - swap in 2500 Axles front and rear, on the front do a Ford F350 Knuckle/hub conversion (free spin hubs), and do a NV4500 swap. Perfect for the trails, can tow well, and a bed for the blood.

At that rate might aswell get a V8 Dakota 1st or 2nd gen so he can do some towing. On any of the small trucks it will need a SAS if he wants it SA. Might as well grab as much power to go with it. Instead of the 4.0 v6 that is underpowered.
