all i did to compress the washers was just took a prybar and pipe and used them to push the gears away. as for the washers under the spider gears i found it easier to put the spiders in and get everything lined up then put the washer under the top spider and them spin the diff over and install the other one. the biggest thing is makein sure u lube the washers or they will have a hard time slideing. i used wheel bearing grease but any kinda lube would work. this was my first LS diff i did but it was no big deal, i work in a diesel garage so i any tool i needed avaiable to me, plus i have a dealers repair manual on my truck which wasnt much help at all. my boss and coworkers and done this kinda of work before so they gave me a hand doin it.
