umm if your a half ton you shouldn't be putting bigger them 38s on it. if you run 44s you will be snapping shafts left and right. i know a kid whos running 5.13 on 42s with d60 front and a gm 14 bolt rear and he still wants lower gears.

i never even thought of 6.17s but that all depends on the motor when its done can you build a 390 to spin to 8500-9000rpm and try and pull a better part of 500hp 550ftps of tq cause i dont think i wanna go 6.17s with a motor that only spins to likw 6000rpm i need some input and a couple more ideas for everybody on here like im not picky about the body looks shit like that i want some sugegons on some stuff like tires and grears tranny t-case lift the only thing i have my heart set on is 44s my danas and ide love to build a high rpm 390 if it can be done stear me in the right direction guys

Personally if its a bogger, Dana 60 up front, 14 bolt out back, 5.38s with detroits, lots of lift and put in a 440 with a np435 or sm465 with a np205 hanging off the back.

Bulletproof engine/tranny/t-case/axles

You don't NEED an engine that will turn that high. You need absolute power in the low to mid range. Let the drivetrain/gears take care of the rest.

Dude you don't need that. Look at diesels. All the power they can get in the 2000-2500 rpm range(their low to mid range).

If you build the engine to make power say between 3500-5000, you'll have plenty for pulling. Set up your gears correctly.

I used to do pulls with a 77 F250. 700hp 460, np435, np205, dana 60 with a 14 bolt out back. It sat on 44" Boggers and had 5.13s in it for gears.

I just put the bitch in 2nd to launch and then upshifted to 3rd. Never had a problem except for stupidly heavy pulls

so now you guys are steering me into a good torquey big block and all the shit that follows it and would a 727 with a deivorce tcase work? and were back into the 5.38s? and why do you sugest a 14bolt over a dana cause i can get my hands on both no problem but i figered the dana would be better but watever you gauys say is stronger is going in the truck

most people in the outlaw class ill be pulling in are running 8-10000 rpm at the line as for the diesels they are running 4-5000 rpm

D70 and 14 bolt are about the same in strength, but more options for the 14bolt and cheaper parts.

Now a D80 is one hell of a beast, but its really heavy.
