10-4. I hear that. I suppose if the NV3500 will be fine behind a mild to medium 360 and a driver who will beat on it from time to time, I'll go that way for the sake of cost. Unless I find a 4500 for a real good deal.

i have the nv4500 in a 3/4 ton gasser, and a guy i work with has the nv3500 in a 3/4 ton gasser. i've driven both and mine is a little stronger and lower in 1st. i'd say its a little slower just because it's geared down a bit since it has the PTO input. You will be happy with either.

Yes, this is my truck. No, I won't help you move.

Thank you, truckman323. That is just the description I was looking for!

In that case, for ease of install and shear cost, I will do the 3500. I've found reman 3500's on eBay for at least a couple hundred less than the 4500's.

And I'm sure you're right that I'll be happy with either over this 46RE I've got now!!!

So let me get this straight: with a manual, I'm going to be putting more power power to the ground, I'll have a longer lasting tranny that I don't have to rebuild every 100K, I'll have more control over the truck, I'll have better driveability, AND I'm saving weight too?!?!

Will do. Unfortunately, it will probably be a while. My goal is to build up parts over time and then when I've collected everything, hit that thing with major intensity on a weekend. It'll probably be the summertime at the earliest. We're saving up to buy the wife a car right now. Then we gotta get out of debt. Unless I uncover a pile of cash, it'll be a little while.

It isn't all bad. When I stimulate the economy with a car for the wife, I'll get some stimulation of my own a little later.

I'm not too worried about towing. The only thing I've towed with the truck so far is a little 400lb trailer with my 500lb bike on it. Didn't even feel like it was there.

Heck, the only reason my drop down hitch is still hanging on the back is for people who want to rear end me (that and I lost the key for the reciever lock).

Sex.

My truck does ok, but I really can feel the driveline lag (feels like I'm towing a boat), even though my motor/trans are tuned up and working as they should. When I give her the beans (floor it) she feels good but under normal driving, just feels like I'm constantly driving uphill.

Anyone got a pile of cash taking up space that they don't need?
