No kidding. Good thing the hood bent up like it did.

The airbag comment is not factual, obviously, just based on observation. I can list at least a dozen people with severe bruising, smashed faces, 2 with broken arms from crashes less than 35mph. All from 1st gen airbags. A sledgehammer will set those friggin things off.

Cheap. Fast. Reliable. (Pick 2)

I'm sure there is a longer list of people who walked away from an accident thanks to the the airbag.

Glad you're ok, JerryFan. Thank God the thing didn't come thru the windshield on ya.
Her head looks like it hit the windshield down in the driver side corner. I'm not sure if its the treatment I had put on when I bought the truck that was supposed to increase the strength of the windshield to prevent chips or not that helped prevent any major damage or worse from happening to the windshield.

And thanks to everybody. I'm glad I was able to walk away unscratched and just shook up. If any of you are family men/women and are concerned about crash safety the front end of the Dodge can more than take it.

The adjuster said he thinks its only around $11k but he doesn't think too much is wrong with the parts under the hood just the water pump and fuse panel for the major stuff. I don't agree but we will find out. And as for the gore there wasn't any blood lots of hair everywhere but no blood or guts the elk was still in one piece. Hittin her was like hittin a wall.

it looks to me like alot more than a water pump and fuse box. im thinking radiator, fan, waterpump, alt, a/c compressor, fuse box, wireing harness, a/c lines are for sure items. possable items are intake manifold, coil packs, valve covers, EGR system, battery, possable motor mounts and even the possiblity of the bell houseing for the trans (depening on how much of an impact the motor took)

Sorry about the accident. By looking at the pic it looks like there is nothing left in the engine bay but it's hard to tell. You should push for a complete total if possible. That truck will never be the same. Never! 11k will not make that truck perfect again. Nothing will. Push for the total and start over. 11k looks on the skinny side.
Glad you and your family are OK.

Scott

Thats what I said and yeah I forgot the radiators but other than that the adjuster said everything else looked okay to him. I made sure to bring up that if anything wasn't working right that I would be taking it in to get fixed on the insurance's bill and he said yeah and that they expect me to find a couple small things he couldn't find.

To the question above I'm not sure but hopefully it doesn't hurt the value too much.
