Not sure about the rangos but the spindles on the dakotas are not taper or press fit. Im sure that they can stick but having them stick so hard to require a puller is a bit rare. Worst case a few good whacks from a dead blow hammer should do the trick.
At least this is how it has worked on my 2000 QuadCab, my 2000 R/t, my buddies 97 5.2L and my other buddies 98 3.9
Like I said the Durango could have a press or taper fit spindle but i doubt it. Those nuts are cranked pretty tight too which could cause the hub to stick.
