is 46RE same as A-518

Hey guys, ya this might be a stupid question, but is the 46RE tranny the same as the A-518...seems like one of them is the dodge name and one is the chrysler name...but i can't remember, i have the 46RE and i'm looking to get a transgo shift kit but 46RE wasn't a choice and 518 was so i figured i'd make sure...thanks

Isn't there somekind of difference though? I know they're basically the same. My old '93 318 had the A-518 I believe and my '97 318 had the newer 46re, both 318 magnums.

Maybe...my A-518 trans. in my '94 B250 is also known as the 46RE.

Is it possible that since the A-518 is a totally hydraulic unit, but the 46RE has some electronics? I don't know....I think it's just new-age technical jargon for a Torqueflite A-518.

I think the 46RE just means 'electronic' but wasn't there a 46RH (hydraulic) before there was the 46RE? About the 518/46..it may just be a name change. Gm used to have the 700R4 and then the same tranny became the 4L60 and then the 4L60E

ok well heres another question for you transmission people, i've heard(thought i don't know for sure) that parts, like floor shifters, that fit the torqueflite 727 will also fit the A-518/46RE, i know they are very similar but is that true, because i'm also looking for a floor shifter and i can't find anything except ones for the torqueflite 727 and 904. thanks again

Ahhhh I was incorrect...the A518 has two versions. Electronic and hydraulic. Well I know for sure my 94 B250 is the 46RH non-electronic.

H=Hydraulic
E=Electronic
2 + 2 = 4

Wow how bout that! LOL!!
