I have an '89 Plymouth Voyager with 160,000 miles. I'm having two problems:

1) My engine sounds like I have a sticky valve. There's a tik-tik-tik that accompanies the purr of my engine. My oil is a bit dirty (I need to change it), but I was wondering if anyone knew what the problem might be and if there's a cheap way to fix it.

2) I was looking around the site, and it seems a few people have had this same problem. My oil gauge indicator is at normal except when my RPMs dip down low (making turns, breaking, etc.). When that happens, the indicator goes all the way back to the far left but then shoots right back up to normal again when I'm on the accelerator.

I'm not even an amateur mechanic, so I need pretty basic help.

Any ideas?

What's tour engine ???
If it's make a tik tik tik noise, I suppose it's a 3.0 engine !
They have some problems with the lifters that make that noise.

But I also notice something about this 3.0 engine : your oil must be a good one. If it's a cheap one or if your oil is old, the engine start to makes this noise.

Drain the oil and perhaps you'll nerver listen to that noise.

You were right!

I changed my oil and the tic tic tic went away.

However, now my "check engine" light remains on at all times.

Oh, and my engine is 3.0.

Thanks!

Hi,

I recently have some noise coming from my lifters on my 1989 Caravan 3,0 liter engine.

I have synthetic oil that has been changed about 2,000km ago. Last week-end,
I tried adding an oil treatment thinking my oil was too light(10W30).It stopped for a few days and started again after. When cold, it's a lot less noisy. My oil is rather black. I think maybe if I change the oil it will resolve the problem.

That problem came and was intermitent but is now quite stable. It is the first time I see that kind of problem.

If someone has had the experience of that kind of trouble and knows a solution, I would be happy to have some advice.

Thanks in advance,

Al

If you don't want the tic tic tic noise again, you can alos use a product made by Wynn's and named : "hydraulic valve lifter concentrate".
It works very well on my 3.0 Voyager and with my new oil, I did'nt listen that noise again.
