For all who asked about stock rims and 315/70R17 BFG ATKO, I finally have a pic. Works good with about 1.75" torsion bar crank

You can view more pics here http://dodgetrucks.org/cgi-bin/index...&si=jerry97ram

Thanks. The official specs on the tire is 34.5x11.9, but it is a bit smaller once mounted on the rim. It measures 34.25 horizontally.

Jerry, that is freakin awesome. Are you having any issues with the tires hitting the fenders if you drive over something? I love to take my ram off road, and I was gonna put 305's on mine but after seeing your truck...........

I haven't had them come close to the fenders yet, but I've only had them on a couple of weeks and I haven't done anything to create flex.

There is still quite a bit of room in the fenderwell. I suppose if it rubbed anywhere, it would be on the front fenderwell liner while flexing in a turn.

Matt,

Thanks. I have the 3.92 gears and the 5.9L and it runs great. Lot's of pep. The tires are only about an inch bigger than the stock tires. The ride is good. Of course, it's a truck and will never ride like a Cadilac. Mileage sucks cause I've only got 700 miles on the truck and it still needs more time for break-in, but I ran around town all day with the overdrive off and was averaging about 11.5 according to the overhead console. It does better around town with the OD off. Hope this helps.

Yes, about 1.75" per side. Need the Rancho RS9000X shocks, though. The stock shocks top out when the front tires drop into a hole or rut. The Ranchos are about an inch longer.

What did ya pay for the tires? I'm lookin to do the same to my 02 RAM QC 4.7 . Also how much for the shocks? Did you buy them locally or off of the internet?

I went to a local tire shop and they said BFGs 265s were the biggest that they thought would fit! Man they weren't even close!

By the way the truck looks KILLER!

You lose some flex in the front end so the tires will not rub the front fenders when offroading. I was testing mine out this weekend, had both rear wheels totally tucked into the wheel wells, but the fronts only travel up slightly. That is one of the drawbacks if you plan on doing any serious rock climbing....but this should'nt be your first choice for a rock crawler in the first place.

The bfgs are great in the mud, and ride smooth on the road. I have the 3.92 limited slip with the 5.7 hemi and have not noticed a loss of power.

I'm not so sure about the bump stops hitting...If that was the case the guys who have added the rancho's and have not seen the problem since would still be seeing the problem. i'm going to park mine on a drop of tomorrow and check it out.

Question:

I am thinking about getting rid of my Weld Sidewinders and moving my BFG 315/70/17's back to these type of stock wheels:

http://www.dodgetalk.com/gallery/dat...xenon4-med.jpg

Is anyone running with these type of wheels? When I first had my stock wheels on it did not look like the BFG's would fit. It looked like they would hit the top A-arm.

Anyone know? Any pics?

How wide are your sidewinders? The stock rim you show beleive is 8"...I have the 02-03 chrome 17x8 stock and they fit fine....
Use this basic tire/rim measurement...the wider the rim, the shorter/fatter the tire will be....the thinner the rim the taller/thinner it will be.
I believe texasramman has those rims on the 315's on dodgetruckworld.com...check them out

My Sidewinders are 17x8 also, but they have an inch less of backspacing than the stock wheels, so they are pushed away from the a-arm a little more.

I have the 315 BFG'S on stock rims on my 2002 and have done serios playing off-road with no problems. I lifted the front 2". Tire Rack is where I bought mine for $125 a piece. Hell of a deal. I have the 3.92 limited -slip rear end and have noticed a little loss of power but a ton of looks when the truck rolls by with the big meats and the Flowmaster dually...........Ram This.

Guy's I need your help. I am leaning on getting M/T Classic wheels in 17/9. On M/T website the only wheel shown is with 4.5" backspacing. I have also decided to go with the 315/70R17 BFG AT KO.

Will this tire/wheel combo work? Will I have any problems with turning radius? With the backspacing being only 4.5" will this cause the wheel/tire to stick out beyond the fender? Any tire rub?

The frontend has been raised 2" and I have RS9000's on all four corners. I want to do this right the first time so any input will help.....Thanks

I think you'll be good to go with that setup, but don't take that as gospel.

What is the stock backspacing? 5.5"? I remember that my wheels (Weld Sidewinders) have 1" less backspacing than the stock wheels, so they stick out about an inch more. Looks awesome... no rub.

With your larger tires do you notice in tire shimmy in the steering wheel?
