undefinedundefinedundefined HELP!!!!!!! I am having trouble with my 2004 Stratus. It has been getting harder and harder to get it out of park. It only happens when I first start it up. Once I can get it out park, it's fine. I have tried getting out of park on flat surface and in the drive (which has a small incline) and thats make not difference. Pretty much once you turn it off and then back on it is almost impossible to get it out of park. Any help would be great. Thanks!!
P.S. Thank god it is still under warranty!!!

I'm not sure if the 04 has the brake interlock device, but if equipt, it prevents the shifter from being moved from park untill the brake pedal is fully depressed.

GM had a big problem with cars (the celebrity mostly) with flooring the gas when shifted out of park, all by it's self. People were killed! Of course GM blamed the drivers. The interlock was GM's way to fix it, rather than find the real problem. All the auto companies decided the interlock was a good safety feature.

My '98 Stratus had a recall for the "Park - ignition interlock". The car can not be shifted out of park with the key in the off position. I guess to insure the car doesn't slip out of park and roll away. This may be your problem. Check to see if your's has a recall notice you never got.

I suspect your problem is with the shifter, and not the transmision. The Chilton's manual will help you remove the center consol with out damage, so you can inspect the mechinisim.

Not to say that ez1 is wrong in anyway, he in fact is actually right. But.... If the car is still under warrenty, I would try and make the pillage to the dealership first. Let them see what the problem is, Then after that start taking your car apart

Well thanks for all the help to all of you. I took the car in to the dealership yesterday and they had what it needed to get fixed. Thank god I bought the car in the town I live which makes the dealership about 2 miles from my house. LOL....Anyways they said it was the shifter cable if I am correct. And hey I got a free oil change in the deal. It's all good now. But now when I need help I will make sure to post it here. Thanks again

Glad that Dodge took good care of you. Our local dealer is kinda shifty. I don't trust them with my rigs. If I need dealer parts or service, I have to drive about an hour.

longI,
No offence taken.

Gad to see you got it fixed. I just took my truck to the dealership today, got brakes, oil change, and some recall work.
