This "Service Engine Soon" light is a real nuisance. I have 79K miles on my '96 Caravan Sport and it runs just great. The light comes on periodically, though. It is currently on. I understand it can be reset. Can someone tell me how, please?

On the OBD II cars like you have, you usaully need a computer. Unhooking the battery generally won't do it. Have you found out why the light is on? They don't come on for nothing. If it is a cat conv code, you need to get to the dealer before it turns 80K. The cat has an 80K warranty on it from the factory, read free cat.

Per suggestions from other threads, I disconnected the battery negative terminal and turned the key to "ON" for 40 seconds... The light reset to off. Don't know how long it will stay off.

You should have checked the reason "why" it came on before disconnecting the battery, then it would not be a mystery and possibly something waiting to leave you stranded.
