Hi All.......need a little "expert" advice, and knew this was the place to get it. Took the 95 caravan to a trany shop the other day, as i noticed a "small" leak(tranny fluid) underneath. Dropped it off, went back home, and waited for call to let me know what they found. Call came couple hrs. later, and said that it needed a "drive axel stabilizer pkg. installed(bearings, seals, etc.) at a price of 300.00. OK'd work and said they'd notify me when job was done about noon next day. Next morn. about 10:30 phone rings, it's them. They say they cannot do the job that they suggested, because the axel is "damaged/frozen" in place, and they can't get it out to install the pkg. But they do suggest that they can do a rebuild on it(tranny & axel) pkg. for 2100.00. Somethin don't smell quite right here. Tranny was not, and is not malfunctioning, just leaking. Told them to button it back up, and i'd think about it. Cost 100.00 to do that. Gonna take it and get a second opinion. So here is my ?.........does this problem sound feasible,(they say it's NOT unusual), or am i being take for a "complete idiot"? In all honesty, approx. 35000 mi. ago, i did bounce the front end pretty hard into a curb. But have had no noticeable problems immediately after that, or for the last 35000 mi. except for a slight vibration that i have not been able to get rid of. And if problem possible, does it make sense to put that kind of $ into an 8 yr. old car? 95 with 62000, but overall not in bad shape. Thanks for any info.

sounds like someone is pulling your leg. I've installed literally hundreds of C/V shafts, and have never seen, nor heard of one seizing in the tranny. There are no moving parts where it sits in the tranny. If you only have 62K on your van, that is very low miles. Is it paid for? Do you want another car payment? I'd definitly get a second opinion though. By the way, how can they rebuild the tranny with the shaft seized in there?

They have that magic tool that will make it work right when you give them the $2100 to rebuild it.
If it was mine,,, take it to some place like Jiffy lube and have them look and see where it is leaking from while there under the Caravan. Yea, the oil change will cost $26, but you might find where it is leaking from.
