Propane Conversion Kits

Had to revist this as the price for gas spikes and continues to increase towards the estimated 6.00 + range. Yea.. let's see how fast this BS put's America into a recession from people not being able to afford to drive to work AND pay for daycare..

I love my truck too much to part with it, but cannot afford to pay 150.00 to fill it. So.. that been said:

Do we have any collective information we can combine to build and dedicate a thread to the discovery and or reverse engineering of a propane conversion kit? I have resources available to build a kit once the data is collected.

I know of JasperEngine and also, a few other sites that "claim" their bowtie kit can be modified to work with the mopar's.

I posted a similar question on a different message board and there is purposively a kit available for our truck engines. From the explanation, it didn't seem too hard to do. I am considering it since propane cost $1.80 and gas is almost $3 as of yesterday.
The only downside to propane is you will lose 15 - 20% power compared to gasoline. I am waiting for them to reply to me and send me a link as to where to buy the kit. When/if I get the link I will post it here. If you have a carb vehicle, the conversion is even easier.

I followed an old Jaguar sedan a few weeks ago and either they had tanks in the trunk with BAD leaks, or they were running that Brit on propane. Seems like a neat idea if the price of propane stays down.

If a lot of people start using propane the price will start to go like gas did/is.

I think that's kinda the point, stay ahead of the curve. As for the reliability of a third party system that changes such crucial parts of the vehicle, i don't know if would ever be able to trust that for reliability, but good for you people who are interested in it. I admire the spirit, too bad the method seems slightly flawed, one could say.

Here's the latest response I received. Maybe a group buy would lower the cost. The again.. Maybe a "helped single buy" and some reverse engineering is in order depending on degree of dificulty.

All HENDRIX INDUSTRIAL GASTRUX conversion kits are completely assembled and include everything you will need to convert your vehicle to dual fuel, you will be able to switch from an alternate fuel to gasoline. These kits are designed and engineered to fit a specific vehicle. NOT A BOX OF PARTS.
$1465.00 to for a complete propane (LPG) conversion kit less tank. Tanks cost $500.00 to $700.00 depending on size and mounting location.
$2300.00 to for a complete compressed natural gas (CNG) conversion kit less tank. Tanks cost $1500.00 to $1800.00.
If your vehicle is not computer controlled subtract $300.00.
Domestic cars and trucks only.
Installation cost around $1500.00
If you live in Illinois the state will reimburse you 80% of the cost of the conversion up to $4000.00.
Thank you Todd Hendrix

One of my shop trucks is propane, when you are running propane except to lose 10% power and 10% mileage...It is also harder to find people to work on trucks that run propane..

I think I'd rather spend that $4000 a little bit at a time on petrol and just watch my foot more closely.
