I thought the Warlock and the Lil' Red Express were two seperate models? The Warlock didn't have the stacks and could be had with a slant six. There was however a Lil' Midnight Express truck.

Someone enlighten me if I'm wrong.

Oh okay...I'm sure through the years we've all been told this and that about what was produced. We need an expert on the Warlock, Lil' Red Express, and the Midnite Express Truck to clarify this.

ok the lil red express was the 2wd "sport truck" with almost every version of engine they made at that time. now the warlock is the 4wd version. without stacks and you could get any engine you wanted. the warlock was made from late 76 to late 78. and i believe only 1800 made. the parts were interchangeable. and the mauals for the w-100 "warlock" they don't have. you have to use 2 the lil red express and the truck manuals. to get the correct info. a pain in the arse but worth the money.
i have BB383 out of a 70 charger in mine. the bigest engine i have seen in a warlock was a 440 someone put in it but from the factory it was usually a 360. this is the information i have found online and calling the local dodge dealership and mopar.

Warlock was a trim option and it came in either 2WD or 4WD. Any half-ton engine or transmission was available, even a slant 6.

Correct! The little red wagon was available with the 360 engine only. Same engine as cop cars had. E58 was the code I think.

Dodgevanman, it's been a while since I've been on. So here goes from my experience when I worked at a Dodge dealer parts department in Columbus, Ohio when these were brand new.
GHS hit it right on the head with the Warlock. The Warlock was available from 1976 through 1979. It was only available in certain colors. Red, white & medium green metallic as well as black were offered. There may be more colors but I can't think of any more on the top of my head.
Unfortunately, I know nothing of Chrysler offering a Midnight Express model. They could have, but I never saw one.
Between the 1975 & 1978 model years, all vehicles, car & trucks, below 6,000 lbs GVW were required to have all the pollution equipment installed. That's what prompted the heavy half ton pickup. Ford was first with the F-150, then Dodge with the D or W 150 & then GM with either the Chevy Big 10 or the GMC "Heavy Half". The governmant saw the writing on the wall & raised the GVW limit to 8,500 lbs beginning with the 1979 model year.
The Lil Red Express was made in 1978 & 1979. It was an attempt by Chrysler to offer a true high performance vehicle one final time without all the pollution crap that was to come ahead in 1979. It came with a higher performance 360 V8, functional ram air & dual exhaust system with no catalytic converters. They had G60 X 15 Goodyear Eagle Radials up front with L60 X 15 at the rears. The 1978's came with no spare tire. They came in Adventurer Sport trim & were available with a black bench, red bench or black bucket seat trims. All seats were vinyl trim.
The Lil Red Express was only going to be produced in the 1978 model year. But sales went so well, they made them in 1979. All interior trim was the same as in 1978. But the exhaust did come with catalytic converters on both pipes. It also came with L60 X 15's at all four wheels & came with a spare tire.
If you look at the VIN on both model year Lil Reds, you'll see the fifth digit is an 'S', signifying the higher performance 360 V8.
The 1980 dealer brochure showed an Express truck which was a Lil Red but available in different colors. I never saw one or knew if one came out of the factory.

Correct. The Lil' Red Express was only available as a 2wd. But there are quite a few 4x4 Warlocks out there, and not all of them are black, either. I'll try to dig up some photos from the Chrysler archives shortly.

Ok... first an explanation... I have the entire photo archive from the Chrysler Public Relations office in California that was closed sometime in the early 90's. This archive spans from 1972 until 1990, covering virtually every Mopar that was made during that time, car or truck. I have bookmarked a few of the memorable ones, like this Warlock, but finding any more of this specific truck would be like looking for a needle in a haystack. I dont know much about the photo, where it was taken, what specs the truck had, etc. But the caption states it is a 4x4 Warlock. Hope you enjoy it.

Warlocks were a dime a dozen around here in the late 70's early 80's due to the fact that they were built right here in Windsor at the old Plant One. The Little Red Express was a little more rare. What seperated the 78's from the 79's were the square headlights on the 79. Little Red was only available with the Police Intercepter 360 and two wheel drive. Most Warlocks were four wheel drive but there were some with two wheel. Most Warlocks also had the 318 in it but some had the 360 regular and the slant 6. I drove the trucks off final car back in 1978 and any Little Red that came off the line got a good break-in The rear tires probably had 500 miles on them by the time it got to the dealership
