Anyone know where one might find copies of old factory manuals for 70s/80s Dodge trucks?
Im specifically looking for wiring harness stuff, as the haynes manual I used to have, and the Chiltons (Total Car Care (barf)) series are sadly lacking in detail and location of certain specific devices.
The old style chiltons manual doesnt even adequately cover the wiring, and the new one is well, not that great.
Also, a long time ago, in a galaxy... wait, wrong line, anyway, I used ot have this killer trouble shooting book, covered everything from brake system tests, electrical component tests and just about everything else you could ask for regarding gas powered vehicles. Anyone know where to find one of these critters, or soemthing similar? I have the haynes version, but again its rather thin, covers only part of the electrical systems in vehicles, and isnt very thorough.
The one I used to have (current at the time then) covered tests for everything, cylinder wear, ohmmeter procedures, all of it. It was more of a textbook more than a user guide. I got it from a mechanics crash course I took, but the book rocked, even if the course sucked.

Your cheapest place will be ebaymotors.com I just added an addtitional 1980 Factory Service Manual to my collection for under $6. You have to keep watching everyday if you want a good deal. If you want to spend a few more bucks you can still get some books from Chryslers source "Dyment Distribution" or you can get reprints from several licensed dealers. Also check out the online used book stores.

I was hoping someone would say that.
i used to have an old 69 1 ton+ ford van, complete with year apropriatte manual (four books, tottaling about 5 inches).
talk about fantastic, if you couldnt fix it using those manuals, you couldnt read.
The wiring diagrams detailed each system seperately, as well as in overview, and each sheet of the diagram was about 16 by 22 fold out. Between that and my trouble shooting manual, everything was a snap.
It even detailed modifying or making vehicle specific tools.
Ah well.

Thanks, you wouldnt happen to know the names of any of the reprint publishers, would you?

Try Irv first and see if he has what you need. Re-prints are a little pricey but you should know as well as I that there is nothing like the Factory Service Manual/s to fix your vehicle. If there is something specific you are looking for just let me know.

Some places have the manuals on CD, I would stay away from www.moparmanuals.com as he sold me a 74-77 truck parts book that was missing 60 pages of part numbers and has yet to make it right after more than 2 years.

Here's one more source: www.books4cars.com

They also have boxes full of never-used owners manuals too.
