knocking sound

I have a 87 D150 318 2bbl ,the engine has less 1500 miles on it from a fresh rebuild it had the a/c which i took off because it no longer worked so i removed the big 4 belt pulley from the bottom and the one from the top and replaced them with 77 pulleys off a 318 just for alt. and power steering .I noticed a rubing sound when i drove it so i checked and the power steering pulley and the bottom pulley on the balancer where off about an inch so i guess i will have to put the old ones back or change the power steering pump also as it was running i could hear a knocking sound from the front of the engine how is this possiable on a 1500 mile engine the only thing i can think is the fuel pump is old because it was'nt replaced anyone have any idea what this might be.............

Did you replace the timing chain and gears?
