Im having wiring/electrical issues. The guy I bought the truck from butchered a lot of the original wiring. Question is where can I get another full harness outside of painless. I like there products but I realy dont want to go universal with the wiring since a dodge truck harness isnt listed, but if I have to then I guess I have to.

Well, you could always get a factory service manual and build a new harness yourself using the schematics or just go the Painless route.

I've seen NOS harnesses here and there on Ebay.

If I do go the painless route will I have to use the Universal Truck Harness or can I use the one for GM columns since my ignition switch and my turn signals are both in the column

Do you have tilt wheel? For a long time Chrysler Corp. used GM/Saginaw tilt steering columns.

Even so, I think the universal harness would be okay. Just see how many circuits you have now and you'll either get their 12-circuit or 18-circuit kit.

No tilt wheel. the 12 circuit harness has everything I need exept the back up light and some acc. stuff I want to put in it so I will probably have to go with the 18 cir. one

What year truck, engine, etc? Which harness? I may be able to help you find a used one or maybe help you repair your old one.

Its a 73 W100, 318, 4spd np435 ? I want to rewire the whole thing. Some spots are butchered but most are all cracked up and dried out. I just keep running in to one wiring problem after another. Thats why I want to update it all to better or preferably newer.

Plus the Painless kit will give you the modern fuse block and weathertight GM style connectors. It's a good investment.

No, you don't need the GM harness. If you are totally ripping the old harness out of the truck, you shouldn't have to modify the Painless harness at all. But you may have to leave some pigtails coming off of things like the turn signal switch, headlight connector, taillight connectors, etc. so you can tie the new harness into them.

Then it's probably best you go with a Painless system. That truck should be a piece of cake to rewire. You could probably even use some of the old muscle car harnesses from YearOne.

Cool thanks for all the info. Its very much appreciated. One more question, What about the bulkhead connector? Can I do away with it, will I have to make my own, or should I be able to get it to plug and play with the painless harness.

I would eliminate the bulkhead connector as it is the weak point of the stock wiring system because of it's vulnerablility to corrosion. Weld up the hole and then drill your own hole and be sure to add a grommet.

I have seen the hole for the bulkhead connector covered with a piece of aluminum or diamond plate. Here's a few places you can poke around at if you need special connectors, etc.
