I have a 1978 Dodge Custom D100 2wd 225 Slant 6 3 speed Automatic. Besides planning to turn it into a rad driving vehicle soon, (which it runs and drives right now) I have a problem at the moment. My battery even with everything replaced in the charging/starting system it still has a drain and kills the battery within 2-3 weeks and faster if I use lights at night etc. Could this be from a bad frame ground or 27 year old wiring harness? If it is the harness, where can can I find one to replace it? Contact matamor @ tjfarrand@hotmail.com

There's definitely a draw somewhere. Unless you can find a NOS harness somewhere you're going to have to make your own. It shouldn't be too bad to do on a 1978 vehicle.
Either that or you can get a universal 12-circuit harness brand new from Painless Wiring. It will replace all the wiring in your truck. They cost around $260 or so.

With everything turned off, disconnect bat. neg. cable.connect a test light from cable to bat.post if the light comes on you have a current draw. remove fuses one at a time until the light goes out there is the circuit with the draw.
ps don't forget to close the doors while doing this. Last edited by AMP762 : 02-23-2005 at 11:03 PM. Reason: add detail |

You may also still not be charging correctly. Have the battery and charging system checked while the engine is running at a good auto parts store or auto electrical shop.
