Hi all, been a while since I have visited. Just last week bought a 1956 Dodge 1/2 ton with what I beleive to be a 259 cid POLYSHPERE engine an it has a factory 2 speed POWERFLTE automatic. NEAT O!!!!

I have been lusting after it for over a year, and the dealer kind of dragged their heels on it, very frustrating...but I have one small glitch........I will have to pay almost as much to ship from the US to Canada as it cost for the whole truck...big plans for it though...will let you know how it goes.

Well, I finally have a DODGE in my GARAGE again...whew....here's some pics. turns out I'm not sure exactly the build date of the truck, the data plate is missing. yay...... The serial number on the title shows up in a 1956 MOPAR parts list I have, and I am told some 55 models were "heldover" into 56 and sold under the 56 model year. It's a 6 volt positive ground setup, so I've got a 21 circuit wiring harness on the way, and have been toying with the idea of getting a front disc brake conversion kit for it. I will most likely leave it "unpainted" and shake it down for a year or so.
Most likely leave the solid front axle setup...who need power steering when you have a wheel 3 feet in diameter. I'll leave the factory powerflite 2 speed auto, but would like to get a pushbutton setup.
I've got a couple leads on some HEMI engines, but am waiting to see and decide the route I'll take. I'm planning on a set of Torquethrust D American Racing wheels on the front and stock steel 15x8's chromed on the back with whitewall slicks. Kind of a "rat rod" low buck run what u brung kinda thing....I've had shiny paint and nice chrome....but driving a 50 year oold piece of automotive history is kinda kool to...
old skool kool !

Anyone else, if they like, let me know your opinions and ideas....It's fun to see what the rest of the community thinks !

Best regards, and thank you all for the interest !!!!!!!!!!!!

the '55 had a wrap-around windshield (the 54 did not)

There were basically two models - one was the "Custom Cab" and the other was the "Custom Regal"

They also had the huge full width rear window (which your 56 seems to have)

Gernally the V8 engine was referred to as the ""Power Dome"

Its an overhead valve V8 that was a 259 cu in motor, and had a 3 9/16 x 1/4" bore and stroke

and ran a 7.5:1 compression ratio

It was around 169HP stock

////////////////////////////////////////////

the base truck came with a 230ci six

///////////////////////////////////////////

It cost $165 bucks (good money in the mid 50's) for the "PowerFlite" transmission.... it replaced the "Truck-O-Matic" tranny

//////////////////////////////////////////

after that ... in '57, Dodge introduced the 57 "Sweptside"

. . . thats some general info anyway .. . . . .
