HELP, 2500-3500 ring and pinion upgrade

hey guys, i have an 08 dodge ram 2500 mega cab with 4.10 gears and want to change them out to 5.13's or around there so i get back to the stock 4.10 gear range with my 38.5 tires. any one know where i can get them? i did a quick look around and didn't see any gear upgrades for the aam axles..

I think they only offer the 4.56's,still or atleast that was my only choice about 5 years ago
I love my 4.56's with 37" tires,much better than my previous 4.10 gears

4.56's is gonna be your best option the link posted above is for the OEM AAM ring and pinion set like I had installed in my 2500. If you have a gasser it's a great option as the factory Power Wagon has them.

Hey, im looking into doing this as well. Any idea why on the moes link the front gear set says AAM and the rear gear set says OEM? Whats the difference? I would think they were both the same right?
Also, did you guys go with Master install kits? Mine has about 65,000 miles on it and im wondering if its worth the extra dough..

Oh and im assuming id need a tuner to calibrate the speedo afterwards right? TIA

AAM is the OEM gear same thing. I bought the master install kit reason was if something goes wrong during the install the shop had the parts on hand right then and there. You will definatley need a tuner to adjust the speedo. I use a Superchips my speedo is dead on with the GPS on my smartphone now.

I only had about 45,000 miles on the truck and I still bought the master install kit.(didnt want to risk it)

You don't need to a tuner for gears, Speedo and odometer go off of wheel speed sensors. I changed my gears and my tuner still is set for 3.73 and no issues. The only time you need a tuner to adjust is for tire size. The gearing has 0 effect on speedometer reading. The master install kit is not a bad idea, I only had 60,000 on mine and still had them done just for the piece of mind.

I was referring to using the Superchips for my speedo,because I have oversized tires.Thats for catching that

I just noticed this thread. Like mentioned, the AAM gears are factory, so they are quiet and the best quality you will find for the HD's. Master install kits are always recommended as they include new bearings. It's good practice to always replace the bearings when you change out your ring/pinion.

And lastly, you wont need any tuner to adjust for the different gear ratio. Only larger/shorter tires will throw off your speedo, so the gears wont have any affect on this.

Thats interesting im now wondering what purpose the gear ratio changing option in my Super Chips tuner serves then? I adjusted both tire size and gear ratio in my tuner

Like ungluedcargo said above, the speed sensors register speed at the wheels instead of at the differential. Because of this, the gear ratio doesnt have any affect on your speedometer. Only larger or smaller tires will affect the speedo.

Other makes register speed at the diff, and that is why some tuners give you the option to enter your vehicles gear ratio.

thanks guys for the info. anyone with the 4.56 gears and the rfe545 what size tires are you running and what rpms in 5th around 70.. with my 4.10's and 38.5's i'm around 1400-1500 rpms .. i want to get it back to that 2200 range it was stalk so the trans doesn't have to work hard.. @hemi450hp do you own moes performance or work there?

With those big 38's, the 4.56's are going to bring your truck back to life. It is lugging hard at only 1500rpms on the highway, so the gears are going to make a huge difference. We have quite a few customers running 37s with 4.56's as it seems to be the best combination for power and mileage.

You would be right around 1900 RPM I have included a link below to a usefull gear calculator. Use the drop down menu up top and choose "Jeep Grand Cherokee" it uses the 545RFE then simply enter the tire size and gear ratio then hit the calculate button and the graph appears on the right. I will say it's very accurate from what I have found.

yes sir,I'm at about 1950 rpm's(ish) at 70 mph with 37" tires
