Fan belt squeal

I recently replaced the fan belt after it started squealing and noticed some cracks in it, so it was time to change out. It's been fine, but recently we've been getting a bit wet around here and the squeel is back. The D has that automatic belt tensioner, however I'm wondering if this can be adjusted or what can be done to get rid of the squeal. It's embarrassing going up to a ride that nice and starting her up. I want to turn heads based on looks, not on some squawking noise!

could be the bearings on one of the pulleys?

I use the Goodyear Gatorback belt - it has grooves to allow flex and eliminate noise

It's definitely the belt, not the bearings. Mind if I ask where you picked up the gatorback belt?

It's probably your belt tensioner. Try a little wd-40 for a temp. fix.

Coach:

It's more than likely your belt, but did ya get it on thight enough in the 1st place? You should have less than 1/8" play in it. Old trick, use sandpaper to rough up belt & pulleys. Also try some belt dressing.

Of course today it dries out and starts up fine with no squeal at all, so it looks like it's only going to do it when it is damp out. Next time that happens, I'm going to do all three... WD-40, rough it up and apply some belt dressing.

If that doesn't work, I'll move on to the tensioner. Thanks for that info and the pricing calcnerd and thanks to everyone for their suggestions.

NO Belt Dressing...it's a tacky, gooy mess. I did it to my 95 Dak...big mistake. Try your first two options. I got my Gatorback belt at Autozone in Spring Lake, NC, about 3 miles from Rocks house.
